Part of our project expansion includes the creation of a new kitchen that will service more children and a new classroom. The construction began in November, but was halted due to lack of funding. With the growth of our volunteer program, building supplies have been bought and labor is available for the completion of these new buildings.

The opening to a new creation...

Dom hard at work. Dirt and rock had to be broken up andtaken out of the building.

Celestria, Chas, and Dom taking dirt away from the construction site. Once dirt has been removed about a foot underneath the desired floor, the ground must be leveled.

Once the ground has been leveled, smooth, round rocks are placed to cover the ground. After the ground is covered in rocks and leveled again, concrete is poured on top. This is the Bolivian method of laying foundation.

Florencio, a foundation employee and one of our construction supervisors, setting stones into the ground. You cannot see from this picture, but they use string and wooden straight edges to make sure that the rocks are level.
