Letter from the founder

Dear friend,

I will try to share from my Strength, Experience and Hope…

On July 11^th 1989, the day after my birthday, a really nice Doctor in Austin Texas gave me really bad news. “Michael, you have Systemic Nephritis Lupus, It is an incurable disease that causes your immune system to attack your body, your Nervous System and Organs…As you know your condition has been rapidly declining and your kidneys are failing…it might be a good idea to get your affairs in order”… “by Christmas”.

Sound Bad? Yes at the time, but I now know it was a miracle given to me by my Higher Power Whom I call God. Not only was it a gift it had saved my life the real one! I was bed ridden for the first year the second year, sometimes I had to use a cane and sometimes in a wheel chair. Humbling was the word for it. My life was the best it had ever been I found out how precious Life is and tried to live on life terms as life presented itself to me. The next year I was on Chemo Therapy to combat that strong immune system, still my life got even better! I found out what love really is- it’s not the feeling or infatuation or the joy, the word love is a verb, an action word, and I cant make or create love and iIdont believe that any other human can either becomes it comes from Above and the through actions of love His power comes through me cleanses me and is shared to others, WOW no more looking for love in all the wrong places. So I blame my survival on my principal that only by giving His love away can I have really have any love at all, what a deal. The more love I make the more I have, The Beatles? I experimented with this by trying to get out of myself and into others, like when I went to the hospital for my own medical complications and I experimented by visiting other patients that had no visitors and trying to comfort them, I got better myself. This may sound holier than thou, but it really was me trying different ways of surviving probably more selfish that pious, you see I figured out something just for me… How could I be sick if His love comes through me into others around me and in the process it cures me?

Well long story short I kept helping others and Love worked its magic on me, I’m still her to prove it. O yes what about passing on by Christmas? Well I can’t leave out one important detail on January 9^th 1990 I got clean and sober not bad for a guy that once owned a club on Sixth street in Austin! As I grew spiritually I found my calling to serve the poorest people I could  find in South or Central America and will spend the rest of my life serving them. This is why we are in the Amazon basin at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in a land locked country called Bolivia.

I would like to share our objective, plan, mission…

Our objective at the foundation Angels of Hope is to help our neighbors escape poverty permanently, and to help them to teach  their families and their neighbors to escape poverty as well.

Is this a tall Order? We think not, you see it’s not what we think we can do but what we believe God would want us to do and this is the desicion that we came to by believing He is really doing the work using us as tools.

Before we ever started we studied 17 different programs in 9 different countries to find out how and what is really going to help our neighbors.  We realized that we must help them by giving a hand up and not a hand out. We have a very comprehensive program that entails many projects Detailed on the web site progress reports. we also learned that an entire program is needed that involves Nutrition, Hygiene, and Basic Education. we found out that a piece meal mission would never work in the long run! When we studied the programs we saw we asked ourselves in one hundred years are these people going to still be poor? The answer most of the time unfortunately was yes and we were determined not to let this happen with our efforts in the field with our friends and neighbors.

Ambitious? Yes and why not werent we Ambitious in our previous lifes trying to make all that money?
