Angels Of Hope Mission
	In the Amazon Jungle of Bolivia
	News update by Co-Founder Virginia Marroquin March-2008

After 10 years of service in Bolivia, Project Angels of Hope is branching out to Brazil. The former Director of Angels of Hope, Michael Marroquin, has resigned. The newly elected director of the operation is the co-founder, Virginia Marroquin. She will be setting up the new operation in southern Brazil as she is aware of social/political needs in her native homeland.

Letter from Virginia Marroquin:

On behalf of the people we've aided since 1998, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to you. You have made it possible for us to make this mission a success.

You have made a positive difference by providing through your donations a place where both the indigenous children and their immediate family members could experience a warm, friendly place where they perceived God's love for them through pastoral, health, and educational orientation.

You have helped us to fight the WAR on poverty in a remote area of Bolivia in a place where Bolivian soldiers, trained by the Americans, were sent to eradicate the coca production. Unfortunately, this was the only livelihood of the uneducated jungle dwellers. The soldiers did nothing to retrain the people, leaving behind famine and desperation.

For the past two years at the mission, we have been experiencing the political pressure of government authorities. After the newly elected president, Evo Morales, strethened his relationship with neighboring dictator, Hugo Chaves, he began bringing into that area, health and educational personnel from Cuba to deliver social services to the poor. Many teen agers are being sent to Cuban schools on scholarships.

The anti-American idealism has created an animosity that led to the arrest of the co-founder, Michael Marroquin. He is presently in jail, in the nearby city of Cochabamba. Michael is being victimized by the system and no fair trial can help solve this situation.

Consequently Project Angels of Hope mission grounds were taken over by friendly Bolivians. The Marroquins managed to hire new personnel who were capable of continuing the mission from the founders' own home built five miles away. Last December all the families enrolled in their programs received the annual Christmas gifts provided by people like you, who care.

The local labor unions and federations have threatened to implement “community justice” in essence take the law into their own hands. This forced me to flee from Bolivia. If I hadn't, I would soon have been a victim of another conspiracy and sent to jail as was Michael.

Due to Bolivia's present political instability, I am now in the process of branching out to the neighboring country of Brazil.

I will send you more details as I develop and structure the new mission. It will be aimed to help needy children in the outskirts of one of Brazil's major shantytowns. The many children that are left in the streets are being victimized by all sorts of social, economic, and political injustices. These are lives wasted for lack of opportunities.

As I am going through this transition, I would like to express my warm and friendly gratitude to all of you who embrace together with us the Angels of Hope Foundation. It is a real metamorphosis of transforming the lives of many children 'forgotten by the world but remembered by God' (John Paul II) into a reality of HOPE.

Angels of Hope have started mapping the area of the project by meeting with people to get an idea of the main problems. Most of the children in the area stay in the streets alone for lack of parental and governmental care.
