Sponsor Letter 2006

The following is a copy of the letter sent to all of our sponsors and donors.

Dear Godfathers and Godmothers,
All of us here at Angels of Hope are immensely thankful for your continued support and generosity, which has enabled us to maintain and develop the foundation and work towards new projects for the people of the Chapare.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wish to inform you that with the special donations sent we were able to distribute Christmas baskets to all the children. It was amazing for them to share something with their families including a chicken and other foods for a special meal as well as domestic goods to aid health and hygiene.

In addition, thanks to your extra generosity, we were able to give backpacks filled with school supplies for each sponsored child ready for the start of the school year in February.  Supplies included the backpack, a dictionary, notebooks and paper, pencils, pens, math equipment, pencil sharpeners and erasers.

Volunteers accompanied staff from the foundation to hand out the backpacks. They described how they received papayas, grapefruits and starfruits from happy parents to say thank you for this gift that will make it possible for their children to study.

If you would like to receive a photo by email of your child with their new materials and see how they have grown, contact our communications coordinator:  sponsorcommunication@yahoo.com

                                                                     ACHEIVEMENTS IN 2005!

2005 saw the capacity of the foundation expand. The school is running better than ever with education, nutrition and hygiene continuing to be our focus.  In addition we were able to commence other community projects.

  • A new bus to transport all the children to and from the nursery and to collect families for Mass.   A huge improvement on our transport situation!
  •  Increased numbers of children at the foundation from 106 to 137 including a new first grade class.
  • Increased staff from 18 to 26 including 2 new nurses.
  • New equipment for the on-site dentist for fillings.
  • Ability to offer our support network to people from 12 communities.  Previously this was four.
  • Courses for the fathers to learn welding.  With their new skills the fathers built a new structure which will be an open shelter for meetings and events for the foundation and for construction work.
  • Courses for mothers to learn to make nutritious pastries with available ingredients
  • Literacy courses for adults.

BRANCHING OUT 2006 - New Projects
  • Community census
  • Access to clean, drinkable water
  • Latrine program
  • Hygiene education
  • New classroon

We are currently undertaking a census of the entire community in order to understand and access their needs better.  We need to reach out to the communities to develop “community” and programs which will result in a sustainable future for all.

The clinic at the foundation has been invaluable to local people to obtain medical treatment for illnesses.  The biggest obstacle the children here face here is illness and the sad fact is that the majority of these illnesses are preventable if only people have access to clean water and basic sanitation in their homes.  We therefore have very ambitious but realistic goals to achieve in these areas.

Our sponsor support is invaluable.  There are still many children who could be sponsored, so if you know anyone who may be interested in giving a child the opportunity to have a Godparent and be sponsored, please direct them to our website.

                                                                  VOLUNTEERING IN THE CHAPARE!!

We have just welcomed a new volunteer scheme, in order to broaden the scope of the foundation’s abilities.   In January we had our first volunteers arrive.  Already the small group has achieved great goals and the atmosphere for putting ideas together and sharing the experience has been really positive.

We have reclaimed an abandoned hotel to house volunteers and foundation staff and their families. The building also has a large communal area which is used for community events and celebrations including recently a Quinceañera  (a very important formal ceremony in ) and a Baptism. The space is also used for a daily youth homework club created by one of our volunteers.  The volunteer program has also helped renovate a kiosk in which local women will sell their artisan crafts.

Although in its infancy, the scheme is a dynamic and exciting addition to the foundation.  It is open to anybody, so if you know anyone interested in volunteering please direct them to our revamped website.
