The Foundation School

The Future begins with the Children...

The Angels of Hope Foundation operates a school, clinic, and dental office in the Chapare region of Bolivia.  Located at the foothills of the Andes mountain range, the Chapare is home to some of the poorest people in the world.  We may never think twice about getting into our car to visit the doctor or dentist, go to the supermarket or school, but for the people in the Chapare these are tasks that are almost impossible.  Families have small plots of land on which they can grow crops such as bananas, papayas, coconuts and coca; however, access to clinics, cars, and even drinkable water is scarce.
The Angles of Hope Foundation has created a place where people can send their children, ages six months to six years, for education and healthcare.  Each day over one hundred and thirty children are picked up by our bus, a trip that takes three hours.  They are fed three meals a day; they brush their teeth, attend classes, and receive any medical and dental care that they need.  In order to enter the program, one parent from each household helps out in the kitchen once a month, our services are otherwise free.  Families of the children, that are part of the program, receive healthcare at half cost; however, the good doctor turns no one away.
Apart from aiding the community in sanitation and education, the project aims to put an end to childhood malnutrition.  We have a staff of about thirty, which includes a doctor, three nurses, a dentist, and teachers.  The results of the program can be seen in the eyes of the children.  A child who is severely malnourished has a yellow tint in the whites of their eyes.  When the Angels of Hope Foundation was started every child had theses telltale signs of malnutrition.  Today the children who attend our school have bright eyes, great smiles and wonderful hearts.  We are giving them tools they will need to lead successful and healthy lives.
